GP Down south is the trading name for the Peel South West Division of General Practice.  The Division is one of a network of 110 Divisions throughout Australia.  It is a member organisation governed by a Board of Directors.  The Directors are elected to the Board from within the Division membership and consist of 5 GP and 2 non-GP members. 

Our core funding is sourced through a contract negotiated with the Federal Department of Health and Ageing. In addition, we actively seek funding from other sources to enable us to add value to our core function. Our support to GPs, practices and the community is provided through programs and services that are described within this website.

To improve the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of primary health care delivery to the community through;
• Building on our capacity as the only accredited regional organisation with access to all primary health care teams.
• Supporting General Practice Teams to improve clinical outcomes, business viability and workforce support.
• Engaging the membership to better understand the health care needs of the community.
• Representing the needs of general practice and the health care needs of the community to government and other relevant stakeholders.
